“Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.” These are the words of Confucius about how enjoyable a career can be to a man. Hence, the imperativeness of choosing a career path. The dream of every young child is so lofty but oftentimes, the results they get from life differ, thereby placing them on different pedestals in life.

The program commenced on the 13th of March 2022 and kick-started at 11 pm at the primary branch of the school. One of the core values of the school is absolute reliance on the sovereign God and as such, the event opened with a short prayer by the head teacher of the school, Mrs Kolade. The young patriots thereafter demonstrated their loyalty to the nation and their alma mater by reciting the national and school anthems respectively.

The first talk of the day was tagged “Career opportunities in the publishing space.” This session was anchored by Mr Egbedele from one of the most reputable publishing firms in the state, Accessible Publishers Nig. Ltd. Mr Egbedeleextensively discussed the disinterest of students to embark on this path in recent years. He also explained that many books are written year in and year out but few publishers are readily available thereby creating job opportunities in that field. He further explained the various steps a book must pass through from the writing stage to the publishing stage. He concluded by encouraging parents to guide their wards aright when making their career choice and not dictating what they must study as this will lead to utmost dissatisfaction.

The second speaker for this event talked about the importance of education to students. The talk session was led by one of the loyalists of the school, Mrs Obagbemiro from IDC Community School, Apapa. Mrs Obagbemiro who is an adept teacher of Mathematics stressed that education plays an enormous role in any career a child wishes to embark upon. She also stressed the fact that education is not restricted to the four walls of the school alone but continues even at home with parents. She concluded by depicting education as the integration of academics and morals and that a child must not be bereft of any of the aforementioned variables.

The event also had a top security expert in attendance as a resource person. Mrs Popoola, an adroit officer of the law from Area command, Oyo state sensitized the audience about the need to be security conscious as the rate of killings and abductions has skyrocketed according to reports on the nation’s dallies. The experienced police officer also expounded some hints on how some petty disagreements can be amicably settled without escalation to the level of police involvement. She brought her speech to an end by suggesting some security tips for safe living in the community as well as some routine actions carried out by people who are criminals when viewed through the lens of the law. One of these actions is stealing by trick.

The talk session was wrapped up by stimulation by the consultant of the school, Mr Babatunde, a Physics don and a STEM educator. He particularly emphasized the reasons why the 21st-century child must be tech savvy and digital compliant. He further unfolded how automation is the order of the day in major industries like Finance, Health, Education etc. The technologist conclusively sensitized parents to encourage students to take the science path highlighting opportunities like Web design, App development, Data Science, Software development, Blockchain development and so on.

Presentations from the young scholars were ongoing in between each talk session. The students made several presentations on their proposed choice of professions. We had presentations from prospective Medical personnel, Farmers, Bakers, Accountants and Lawyers at the primary and secondary levels of the school. The young minds also made several song presentations as well as an exquisite and emotional drama on the disadvantage of swerving a child from his/her chosen occupation.
